Contemporary mankind caught up in a vortex of loss; from the perception of loss to the state of being lost, anger, revolution and their sublimation. “Displace” is the final part of a long-term production by Muta Imago, first featured during last year’s festival and which will terminate during the 2011 Festival. As evident from the name, Muta Imago pays more importance to the sound and the visual image as an alternative and more effective means to reach our emotions than the word which appears faded and colourless, like a well-worn pair of jeans. In “Displace”, contemporary emotions are brought face-to-face with the concept of disorientation. “Displace” in English can also be used to describe a refugee “shifted” from one place to another against his will. The entire three-part production—also containing some self-standing performances—terminates with a final performance to be held during the Romaeuropa Festival 2011.
La rabbia rossa” or red rage, featured in last year's Festival dealing with rage and the sensation of suffocation, of being on the point of exploding and the rediscovery of the muscles and the sheer physical force, is accompanied by a melancholic composition by Georg Friedrich Haendel sung by one of the performers on stage. It depicts a nostalgic vision of a make-believe world which no longer exists and which becomes the core theme of “Rovine”, the initial part of “Displace” which closes with the convergence of the past, frustration, rage, nostalgia and revolution. Founded in 2004 by Riccardo Fazi (playwright), Claudia Sorace (director) and Massimo Troncanetti (scenographer) and with the addition of Glen Blackhall (actor) in 2007, Muta Imago has a contemporary approach to theatrical research with an “improper” use of technology and a highly corporeal style recitation. Well versed in articulated projects, the group has found its true formula in the trilogy on memory, “(a+b)3”, “Lev” and “Madeleine”.
