National Premiere
By now a regular fixture at Romaeuropa Festival, “Cantieri” (”Construction Sites”) are places that have been created to allow various disciplines to meet and to offer an opportunity for young artists coming from different backgrounds to work together.
Meeting in the first construction site of 2007 are, in fact, the Belgian dancer and choreographer Julien Bruneau and Idioms Film, the Palestinian photo/video/filmmakers.
In a territory with a high density of reporters and journalists as Palestine has been since a number of years, it is no big surprise that a network of locally-bred photographers, film technicians and makers has developed. Meeting them in July 2006 Julien Bruneau proposed them to become “journalists” on stage, shifting into the performance frame the mechanisms of media’s testimony. Through dance, photography and talk, they work into the gap between reality and its representation.
They observe how a memory could be created, then shared and how sometimes it is possible to be dispossessed of one’s own history.
Before the “Cantiere” starts, you will be able to visit the photo exhibition and watch documentaries about life in the Palestinian Territories, from 8.00 pm to midnight.
Idioms Film production can be seen on the Internet (www.idiomsfilm.com)
Julien Bruneau is based in Belgium where he first studied visual art, at LaCambre (Bruxelles). His artistic research led him towards dance, his mainactivity since then. His current approach to contemporary dance passes by a continuous personal research and practice concerned by the articulation of body and mind. For several years, he creates his own pieces and collaborates with people involved in various art fields. Besides he is also a performer for others project, currently for Stefan Dreher’s company.
June 2004 was the establishment of Idioms Film by 8 young artists from Ramallah,
working in various fields of film-making, photography and music. The aim of Idioms Film is to widen and to encourage a national understanding and support for local cinema production and to involve a wide range of artists and graduates from different fields in the process of establishing a creative industry infrastructure core.
