PALAZZO FENDI

National Premiere
Christian Partos, according to the curator of the exhibition Richard Castelli, is the nightmare of exhibition and museum supervisors. And the reason is quite easy to understand. Diverse materials and techniques, ranging from natural materials, water and fire, to traditional materials, wood, stone and metal, combined with technology and the most disparate of visual and illusionary techniques are at the disposal of works in movement, of highly differentiated visual tableaux. But the key feature of the Swedish artist’s style is his ability to challenge our organs of sense, to disorientate them, to mock them and to deceive them, finally forcing us to reflect, often with a smile, on our own perceptions. (A catalogue including a number of his works is available at www.partos.se).

It is his marked sense of irony that led him to perform at Palazzo Fendi, one of the icons of Italian fashion, both “Striptease”, where the striptease artist and her clothes are turned into a shadow, albeit very tangible, and “Adam & Eve”, a couple dressed only in the suspended dust of the hall.

But the world Partos puts on stage is peopled by abroad and disparate range of beings and objects: smiling ampoules, one-handed clocks, bubble televisions not to mention figures expanded through an optical system produced by a drop falling in the water.
