SANTASANGRE + THE POOL FACTORY

The collaboration between Santasangre and The Pool Factory accentuates how two worlds related to cinema, performances, dance and theater, can veer toward a visual work which has no ties to the performing arts, as with Progetto abLimen. Nevertheless, protagonists exist, but they’re unaware and unrecognizable: viewers, with their presence and movements, will leave a trail that will be captured by a computer and thanks to a profound transposition, will become part of a dynamic holographic display.

Rather than in the interaction between viewer/artist, the core of this work lies in the presence of individuals in the same space, a simple relation which gives rise to a complex structure, that is abLimen. In some ways it’s a biological metaphor where individuals and species aren’t aware that they form an ecosystem, often a very articulated one. Thus, experiences tied to the study and representation of physical and natural phenomena, typical of Santasangre, meld with those of The Pool Factory: capturing movements and holography, a technique Santasangre uses as well. The end result is open, in any case, since the software used is intended not as a limited tool, but rather as a grammar that is used, though unwittingly, even by the movement of viewers. Not a graph but a representation: where the passage of life, which is ephemeral and elusive in itself, will begin to settle leaving a trail, perhaps a trace, a brushstroke on the canvas of time.

The Pool Factory has worked for over 15 years,in Italy and worldwide, with 3D animations, mainly in real-time. The use of Motion Capture technology has considerably changed their artistic and industrial approach, turning The Pool Factory into a leader and an internationally acclaimed company in its field.

Santasangre is an artistic research project that was born in Rome at the end of 2001. A collective expression of diverse artistic training and personalities, Santasangre is eager to explore the fracture that exists beyond defined language. Throughout the years they’ve worked with the most significant artistic and performances languages like video, music, body, and ambience.

TECHNIQUE

RFID (radio frequency identification) technique traces the positions and movements of people within the exhibition space, forming a map of the stream of visitors. The data is then decoded by a graphic software that processes a 3D image then presented as a holographic illusion.
